Korean War Memorial

The plaque commemorates Australian service men and service women who served in the Korean War.

The Korean War (25 June 1950 – 27 July 1953) was a war between the Republic of Korea (South Korea), supported by the United Nations, and the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (North Korea), at one time supported by the Peoples Republic of China and the Soviet Union. It was primarily the result of the political division of Korea by an agreement of the victorious Allies at the conclusion of the Pacific War at the end of World War Two. After the war ended, the presence of Australians in Korea continued with a peacekeeping force until 1956. Of the 340 Australians killed during the Korean War, 43 were classified as ‘missing in action’ (MIA) and presumed dead.

How to get to Korean War Memorial

The Korean War Memorial is located just inside the Memorial Cross Gatehouse.

Memorial Cross Reserve

The Mount Macedon War Memorial Reserve was created in 1995 when the Memorial Cross was rebuilt.

Memorial Cross

The most significant war memorial in Victoria after the Shrine of Remembrance. At 21m tall, the cross is a truly amazing monument.

Cross Reserve Gatehouse

Originally built as a a set of gates to commemorate World War II, the Cross gatehouse was expanded in 1995 to also include information boards about the Memorial Cross Reserve.

Vietnam Memorial

The monument commemorates those who served in the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1972.

ANZAC Dawn Service

Every year on ANZAC DAY, April 25th, a dawn service is held to honour those who have fought for Victoria, and Australia.

Remembrance Day

Each year, the Commonwealth commemorates Remembrance Day. The flag at the Memorial Cross is lowered to half-mast by the staff at Top of the Range to honour those who have fallen in war.

Major Mitchell Lookout

Named after the Surveyor General of the NSW colony, Thomas Mitchell. He also named Mount Macedon. The Major Mitchell lookout has great views to the West, and is a great stop on the way to the Memorial Cross.

National Servicemens Memorial

The plaque commemorates those who undertook National Service in the Australian Defence Forces from 1951 to 1972.
